Management of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) and the student body have smoked the peace pipe following last Tuesday’s protest against the school authorities over allegations of poor sanitary conditions on campus, fee hikes, and others.
The Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Osman Mubarik Abu, in a statement dated Thursday, September 18, 2025, disclosed that the University Management held a meeting with the student leadership and has taken pragmatic steps to address the concerns highlighted by the disgruntled students.
He also revealed that in collaboration with the student leadership, the students who sustained various injuries during the protest have been treated and discharged from the hospital.
“Management, however, regrets the excess that ensued during the 16th September 2025 demonstration, where some students clashed with the officers of the Ghana Police Service, leading to some students being injured.
“The university acknowledges the right of students to embark on peaceful demonstrations regarding concerns critical to their welfare as stipulated in the students’ regulatory document (Student Handbook),” he said.
The Public Affairs Director noted that a roadmap to addressing the prevailing concerns has been reached, and the students have communicated to management their readiness to return to the classroom for the semester to continue unabated.
“Management truly appreciates the cooperation of all parties, including Faculty, the media, the Ghana Police Service, traditional authorities, all Students and other stakeholders in addressing the impasse,” he stated.
