Three suspected land guards were killed, whilst more than 20 people sustained various degrees of injuries at Agona Abodom during a violent clash between the residents and land guards allegedly from Greater Kasoa.

An eyewitness account gathered gleaned has it the that the three who died were not citizens of Agona Abodom.

The Police is yet to identify those killed during the clash during the town’s annual festival on Saturday.

The witness said 11 of those injured were rushed to Agona Bobikuma Health Centre and the rest had been admitted at Gomoa Obuasi Health Centre and Swedru Municipal Government Hospital.

According to the eyewitness, property worth a fortune, including the NADMO Zonal office located at the Abodom chief’s palace as well as canopies erected and plastic chairs aranged  for the Akwambo Festival durbar were damaged.

The witness said two of the landguards who were on admission at the Bobikuma Health Centre told the police that they were allegedly brought to Abodom by a citizen of the town, but resident at Kasoa.

The information has that the Tufuhene of the town, Nana Kusi Obrempong II had sought injunction at the Swedru High Court to restrain one Mr Kwesi Gyan who claimed to be chief of the town and others from celebrating the festival, but the court refused to grant the injunction.

It will be recalled that the Omanhen (Overlord) of Agonanman OKofo Ktakayi Nyakoh Eku X, during the Nyakrom Traditional Council meeting wanted the Agona West Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to stop the celebration of the Abodom Akwambo Festival to avoid a clash.

According to Katakyi Nyakoh Eku, chieftaincy matters at Abodom still raged on and it was not good for the town to celebrate the festival this year.

The Omanhene had therefore urged the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom who was present at the meeting to marshal all forces as chairman of the MUSEC to halt the celebration being led by the purported chief, one Mr Kwesi Gyan.
