Traders at the Korle Gonno market in Accra, are pleading with the government to help fix and maintain the dilapidated Korle Gonno Tuesday market.
The market, which has been operating for more than 20 years, has been left in a bad condition, with no proper roads or cement floors, causing significant loss of business for traders especially when it rains.
According to some of the traders, the market is called the ‘Tuesday Market’ because traders tend to get more money and customers on Tuesdays. However, the poor condition of the market has led to some traders finding new locations to trade, leaving just a few still at the market.
The traders have appealed to the government for assistance in the past, but previous efforts have been unsuccessful.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) attempted to address the problem but was unable to complete the work before the party was voted out of office.
Despite subsequent appeals, no progress has been made.
These traders are however calling on the government to take immediate action to fix and construct the market, as they cannot afford to continue losing business due to the poor state of the market.
