The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari Mahama II, has congratulated the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Professor Seidu Al-hassan.

“I am directed by His Royal Majesty,Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II to convey his congratulatory message to you Professor Seidu Seidu, a former Pro-Vice Chancellor on your appointment as the new Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies, UDS. Your appointment has come at the right time” a statement signed by the Secretary to the Ya Naa has said.

The Dagbon King intimated the appointment leaves no one in doubt that your hard-work and sacrifices for the UDS has ultimately paid off.

“Having served in all strata of the University including a Department Coordinator, Head of Department, Vice Dean, Director and Pro-Vice Chancellor, you have seen it all in the UDS, and I hope these vast experiences and your sterling leadership credentials would guide your steps  in making the University greater” Naa Abukari added.

Ya Naa has however urged the Agricultural Economist to be guided by the mission and objectives of the University in order to remedy the challenges it was established to address.

“In your career, you demonstrated astuteness, humility, hard-work, competence and selflessness and I implore you to continue these values as you assume leadership of this great University.”

Meanwhile, Ya Naa Abukari II has express gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the University Governing Council for such a good decision and foresight in appointing such an experienced person to the high office of the University.

Background:  

Chairman of the UDS Governing Council, Prof A. Wayo Seini, in letter on June 1 conveyed the appointment of Prof Seidu Al-hassan as the new Vice Chancellor.

He is expected to take over from the current Vice Chancellor, Prof Gabriel Ayum Teye, on September 1, 2022, when his tenure of office expires.

The Chairman wrote, “In the exercise of the authority vested in the University Council by section 195(3) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, I write to offer you appointment as Vice-Chancellor, University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale, following the overall outcome of the thorough and extensive work done by the Search Committee appointed by the UDS Governing Council in November 2021 and inaugurated by the Chairman on December 7, 2021.”
