The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has empowered staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) via a ‘Trainer of Trainers’ program on customer service and relationship building, effective writing, as well as marketing and branding skills.

Some selected staff from the Northern Belt comprising Regional and District Public Relations Officers (PROs), Client Attendants and District Managers attended a two-day maiden phase, from August 23 to 24, 2023.

Spearheaded by the Corporate Affairs Directorate and the Training and Development Unit, NHIA head office., the in-house facilitators were Ruth Kukua Ntumy Coleman, Naphtali Awuakye-Kyei Baffour and Abdul Karim Naatogmah.

In his opening remarks, Ag. Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah acclaimed the USAID support and added that the exercise was co-sponsored by the NHIA.

According to him, the exercise sought to improve staff awareness and technical skills on the preferred topics.

He urged the participants to stay up to date with the ‘New NHIS leadership’ vision and work towards attaining their annual targets of 100 percent increment of the NHIS active membership.

The Authority’s Leading Trainer, Deputy Director, Training and Development Unit, Mr. Dickson Nuku Dansu anticipated that the engagements will positively improve staff capacity.

He reiterated the need for the participants to impact the knowledge gained on their colleagues to enhance their skills and productivity.

The NHIA’s Northern Belt Director, Mr. Titus Sorey, believed the exercise provided the participants with a better understanding of their responsibilities, in-depth knowledge, and skills required to improve their performance.

From the Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West, the participants expressed satisfaction in the exercise and observed that more of such exercises will help them hit the ground running.

The Trainer of Trainers program will be replicated in the Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions for NHIS staff in the Middle and Coastal Belts.
