The Circuit Court in Walewale in the North East Region has sentenced the two suspects who stole a pistol and ammunition belonging to an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The two suspects, Mustapha Basit, age 18, and Baba Rasid, age 22, were arraigned before the Walewale Circuit Court dated Thursday, May 22, 2025, on charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing.
However, the two accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges and the court presided over by Justice Francis Asobayeri convicted them on their own plea and sentenced each of them to five years imprisonment in hard labour.
It was reported that the two convicts entered the room of the immigration officer at about 12 noon on Saturday, May 17, 2025, while he (the GIS officer) was away and stole a Smith and Wessonssen pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition as well as two CZ rifle magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Unit of the North East Regional Police Command in a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Robert Anabiik Anmain, on Friday, May 23, said processes are under way to take the convicts to the Prisons to begin their sentences.
