Walewale Has One Community More To Achieve 100% Electricity Coverage

The Walewale Constituency in the North East Region is left with one more community to achieve a universal coverage of electricity. This was revealed by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, after she connected Boayini, one of the farming communities in the constituency to the national grid on Friday, June 30, 2023.

Addressing the Chiefs and people of the community, the MP who doubles as the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, said the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government since assuming office has added 37 communities in the constituency to the national electricity grid.

She said the one outstanding area is Mogtani but gave an assurance that plans are also in place to connect the community to the grid.

Hajia Lariba indicated there are also extension works being done to cover all parts of the beneficiary communities in order to ensure all households benefit from the electricity.

She also presented ten streetlamps to be fixed at vantage points in the community to improve security at night.

Speaking to THE CUSTODIAN, Hajia Lariba said the intervention would a lot development to the community and also propel economic activities in the area.

“This people have been denied electricity for quite a long time and fortunately here we are today to commission their lights through the power of Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP government.”

She added, “If you look at them, this is a very big community but for time in memorial, they don’t have lights, so we tried and made it possible and today Boayini is enjoying its share of the national cake”.

The Walewale legislator mentioned that measures are being put in place to address the road infrastructure, school and network challenges in the community.

“So, they should bear with us, be with us in prayers and we would deliver the mandate that they have entrusted in us” she appealed.

The lawmaker took the opportunity to rally support for the candidature of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to lead the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections and maintained the people will have the opportunity to enjoy more developmental projects he is elected as President of the Republic.

Meanwhile, David Langha Mbaga, an elder in the community said the MP has left an indelible mark in the community with the electricity intervention.

He noted women and the youth can now venture into gainful economic activities to improve their livelihood stating this will mitigate their impoverishment to large extent.

Another young lady who could not hide her joy said women the absence of electricity was basis for nurses and midwives to refuse posting to the community.

She believes this would be a thing of the past and pregnant women who were transported to other distant parts of municipality would no longer have to go through that.  

Meanwhile, the Walewale Member of Parliament also toured the constituency to inspect some ongoing road projects and interacted with the contractors to obtain firsthand information about progress of the work.
