Director-General of the Ghana Education Service(GES), Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has revealed that WASSCE candidates in Bawku Senior High, Zuarungu, Nalerigu and Nkwanta Senior High Schools have reported to school to sit for the 2025 WAEC examinations despite heightened tensions in such areas.
The 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), scheduled to run from Tuesday, August 5 to Friday, September 19, will see a total of 461,640 candidates participating, comprising 207,381 males and 254,259 females, across 701 examination centres.
This reflects a marginal 0.2% increase compared to the 2024 figures.
However, there have been concerns about security measures in areas of Bawku and Nkwanta, leading to the shutdown of second-cycle institutions following renewed chieftaincy clashes.
At a press briefing on Monday, August 4, he noted that the service has ramped up efforts to ensure the safety of WASSCE candidates in conflict-prone areas.
“We have taken adequate security measures. We are working collaboratively with the security to ensure that we have an incident-free [exam]. They reported to school all three conflict-prone areas. So we are ready and set to get the students to take their Exams,” he said.
Prof. Davis further issued a stern warning to invigilators and supervisors to desist from aiding in examination malpractice or face dismissal.
“We know the effect of examination Malpractices on the integrity of the certificate and the education system as a whole, so they should not do it. If they do, they will be dismissed.”
