Former Mayor of Tamale and now Deputy Chief Executive of Forestry Commission, Musah Iddrisu Superior, has charged the rank and file of the governing New Patriotic Party to implore very efficient, innovative and proper plans at all times to execute its campaign to win the 2024 general elections.
Whilst announcing his intention in a statement on Wednesday (December 15, 2021) to contest the NPP General Secretary portfolio in 2022 when the party goes to congress, the outspoken Musah Superior asserted that the spirit of the NPP must be brought back.
“I have the capacity and strength to find the lost spirit, revive the dormant party structures across the country and serve the party people with purpose, greater assertion and conviction in the mandate I seek” he said.
However, he indicated that the decision to present himself for election as the party’s Chief Scribe became stronger by calls from the rank and file of the party to serve in that role.
“As a true, loyal and dedicated member who is desirous in serving the New Patriotic Party in any capacity, I feel obliged to respond positively to the calls by the numerous party people across the country.”
He added that, “I have reflected on my contribution to the New Patriotic Party since the days of the Danquah/Busia Club in the 1990s through to the days the party was formed and launched in July 1992. As a “foundation” member of the party, I have decided to contest for the position of General Secretary in the 2022 National Delegates Congress of our great party”.
The one time campaign aide to candidate Nana Akufo-Addo believes the NPP government has performed well and the party must build on the successes chalked by the government as part of its strategy to secure victory in 2024.
He affirmed that, “It is for this reason that I offer myself for the General Secretary position to lead in galvanizing the grassroots to re-build a stronger, thoughtful and more efficient party capable of energizing and mobilizing first our supporters and sympathizers, and then millions of non-NPP voting citizens across the country to compete meaningfully in the 2024 general elections”.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Musah Iddrisu Superior will present himself for election in the NPP. He stood in 2005 to be elected as the NPP National Organiser but was unable to secure the majority votes.
He later in 2011 won the Tamale Central constituency parliamentary primaries of the party to lock-horns with then incumbent, Inusah Fuseini of the National Democratic Congress but could only appreciate significant votes for the NPP in the 2012 general polls.
He was the convener of young patriots of the Dankwa/Busia/Dombo tradition in the early 90s to rally massive support for the party and this was moment politics in the north was not a venture for young adults.
