Israel is an ancient land, home to an ancient people—the Jews—who have traversed the corridors of history, enduring unimaginable adversities to reclaim their ancestral homeland and revive their timeless language, Hebrew.

The Jewish state of Israel, the smallest nation in the Middle East, stands encircled by adversaries intent on its destruction. Simply put, the Israel of the Bible—the
land where Abraham, Jacob, Joshua, David, Solomon, Jesus, and countless other iconic figures lived and shaped history—is the Israel I wish to share with you. Its eternal capital, Jerusalem, shall never be divided.

For many of us in Ghana, it transcends mere geography; it is the Holy Land, the sacred cradle of the Christian faith. Here, Jesus was born, walked, taught, and sowed the seeds of hope that sustain Christians to this day. Beyond its profound spiritual resonance, Israel embodies resilience—a nation that, much like Ghana, has battled formidable odds to forge its identity and secure its place
in the world.

As Ghanaians, we are a people of deep faith, resilience, and compassion. Our history and values teach us to stand for justice, support those in need, and seek peace in a troubled world. Today, I invite us to turn our hearts and prayers toward Israel—a nation whose story echoes some of our struggles and whose challenges call for our solidarity because we have;

A Shared Journey of Resilience

When Ghana gained independence in 1957, we emerged from colonial rule with a vision of self-determination and progress. Israel’s journey mirrors this in many ways. Re-established in 1948 after centuries of dispersion, the Jewish people rebuilt their homeland from the ashes of hardship.

Both nations know what it means to rise above adversity and to cultivate a future while honoring the past. Supporting Israel is, in a sense, a recognition of our own story—a testament to the strength of people who refuse to give up.

Our Faith Commands It

In churches and homes across Ghana, prayer is our strength. The Bible urges us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6), a call that resonates deeply with the Christian heritage. Israel today faces threats—terrorism, regional conflicts, and global criticism—that test its existence. As a people who understand the power of prayer, we can lift this nation, asking for wisdom for its leaders, protection for its people, and a path to lasting peace. Prayer is not passive; it is an act of faith and a bridge to hope. “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee” (Gen. 12:3). Nations, groups and individuals who oppress Israel are subjecting themselves to God’s wrath. They are digging a pit in which they will fall themselves. Big world empires such as the once mighty Babylonians, Assyrians, and the Roman Empire have proved the devastating consequences of trying to annihilate Israel.

A Partner in Progress

Beyond faith, Israel offers practical lessons for Ghana. This small nation has become a global leader in innovation—agriculture, technology, and water management—fields where Ghana seeks to grow. Through partnerships, Israel has shared expertise with African nations, including ours, helping farmers increase yields and communities’ access to clean water. Supporting Israel means fostering ties that can benefit our own development, creating a future where both nations thrive.

Standing for Justice and Peace

Some may ask: why Israel, when the world is full of struggles? The answer lies in balance. Israel is not perfect—no nation is—but it is often unfairly singled out due to antisemitism. As Ghanaians, we know the sting of misrepresentation, of having our story told by others. Israel seeks to live in peace, yet it faces enemies who deny its right to exist. Supporting Israel does not mean ignoring the plight of others; it means standing for a world where every nation can flourish without fear.

A Ghanaian Duty

In our anthem, we sing of being “bold to defend forever the cause of freedom and of right.” Israel’s fight for survival is a cause of freedom, a stand against forces that would erase a people from the earth. As Ghanaians, we can extend our hands in friendship—through prayer, through advocacy, and through understanding. Let us not turn away from a nation that, like us, seeks to build a future for its children.

I call upon all Ghanaians to unite with me in supporting and praying for Israel. Let us demonstrate to the world that Ghana’s heart is vast enough to embrace a distant ally and our faith resolute enough to champion peace where it is most desperately needed. Together, we can stand as a beacon—not only for ourselves but for nations like Israel, steadfast amid a turbulent world
