The High Court in Accra is scheduled to hear a motion filed by legal counsel for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The motion seeks a review of the GH¢50 million bail imposed on him by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The hearing is scheduled for tomorrow June 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
Chairman Wontumi was apprehended by EOCO last week in connection with undisclosed investigations.
He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million, with the requirement of two sureties, both to be justified.
As of Friday night, the two sureties had been secured but Wontumi had not been released.
Concurrently, Head of NPP’s legal Directorate, Lawyer Gary Nimako Marfo filed a motion at the High Court in Accra seeking a review of the bail conditions, which, the main opposition party argued, was excessive and designed to delay the release of Wontumi.
The motion, filed by Marfo & Associates on May 30, 2025, requested the court to reconsider the bail terms.
