The King and Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Yaa Naa Abukari II, has expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic crashing of the military helicopter leading to the gruesome killing of eight people on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The Dagbon Overlord has further extended his profound condolences to the Government of and people of Ghana, the bereaved families, and all who are affected by the tragic incident.
”With a heavy heart and deep sorrow, His Royal Majesty Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II, King of Dagbon, extends his profound condolences to the Government and People of Ghana, the bereaved families, and all who are affected by the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred at the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region” a statement signed by Secretary of the Yaa Naa has said.
Yaa Naa Abukari II noted that, “This monumental national tragedy, which we have never witnessed in recent time, claiming the lives of two of his sons, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Mutala and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed and six other brave and distinguished citizens of our beloved country, is a heartbreaking blow to the soul of the nation.”
He added, “The fallen, as announced by the chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, were men of valour and intellect, with unwavering dedication to the progress, security, and prosperity of our motherland.”
Consequently, the Dagbon King has associated himself with the calls for thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragic crash.
”The lives they led and the service they provided shall never be forgotten. This tragedy must renew our determination to uphold the unity and stability of our nation and combat of the galamsey menace in the country” he emphasized.
Background
The government has confirmed the deaths of eight individuals in a military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
Among the deceased are Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Murtala Mohammed.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at news press conference announced the tragic incident and further directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the victims. He also extended the government’s condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation.
Other victims include Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; and Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the NDC and a former Kumasi Mayor.
