Some leading figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi Constituency in the Northern Region have smoke the peace pipe to form a formidable force for the victory of former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the party’s 2028 presidential candidate.
Hitherto, there was some seeming bad blood and rancor among these key personalities and their followers in the constituency which many have argued resulted to a large extent the NPP narrowly losing the Yendi seat in the 2024 general elections.
However, as the campaign for the party’s January 31, 2026, presidential primaries is heating up across the country, pictures emerged from the Yendi constituency showing the immediate past NPP Member of Parliament, Dr Farouk Aliu Mahama together with his predecessor, Alhaji Habib Tijani, Ghana’s former Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Alhaji Inusah Amadu Dagomba Boy, a former Yendi constituency Chairman, vigorously campaigning for Dr Bawumia.
They have since last weekend been crisscrossing the constituency to engage the polling station executives among key stakeholders who form the electoral college for the upcoming primaries on the need to once again elect the former Vice President to lead the NPP.

A video obtained by The Custodian Online shows the NPP bigwigs taking turns to address the party grassroot and calling for unity and proper reconciliation among its rank and file to be battle ready for 2028.
Dr Farouk Aliu Mahama in his remarks said there’s no permanent enemy in politics but only permanent interest. Accordingly, he noted the interest of all of them is the victory of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer of the NPP.
“So our interest now is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. So if you see us together; we’re not doing this for the optics but it is something deeply rooted in our hearts. We collectively agreed to work together for ourselves to secure power” he stated.
He added the aim of the team is to improve the 70 percent votes Dr Bawumia had in the last presidential primaries leading into the 2024 general elections.
Ambassador Habib Tijani in his address also underscored the importance of unity in the constituency and called on the teeming youth to come together as one to vote massively for the former Vice President.
He said the victory of Dr Bawumia will open more opportunities for the youth in the area and that it will also serve as an inspiration for generations to come.
“So please let us come together and vote for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. When we’re done with that then we come together to rebuild the constituency and recapture the seat back” he said.
The former Chairman, Alhaji Inusah Amadu Dagomba boy also appealed to the grassroot to vote massively for Dr Bawumia, stating the National Democratic Congress will elect a new candidate for the next general elections.

He further charged the delegates to reach out to their colleagues in other areas to vote for Bawumia.
“This is an internal contest, it is not a fight. We’re rejecting the other candidates but they should wait for us to go with Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to secure victory for us in 2028.
“We can all attest to what happened when we were divided but now we’re moving together and there is no one left out, so please you should also reach out to each others” he appealed.
