The first Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the northern region, Alhaji Iddrisu Sunday has assured victims of last Saturday police brutalities in Changli, a suburb of the Tamale metropolis that, all efforts are geared towards finding justice for all those who suffered the unwarranted attacks on their lives and properties in the community.

He conceded that it is unacceptable for a civilian to obstruct the work of a law enforcement officer and condemned the alleged assault of the police officer who visited the community to conduct an arrest of the suspect, which turned violent.

However, the NPP first Vice noted it is not also a guarantee for armed officers of the Ghana Police Service to storm the community and visit mayhem on innocent and unarmed civilians who never participated in the manhandling of the police woman.

Interacting with the Chiefs and elders of Changli at the Dakpema palace on Thursday when the NPP Tamale Central parliamentary candidate, Dr Ibrahim Anyars led a delegation to commiserate with families of the brutalities, Alhaji Sunday implored the Chiefs to caution the public from doing politics with the issue.

He said, “When the incident happened I was with the people at the police station until all of them were granted bail and few days back, I was in court with the female suspect and the case will be called in court again on May 5 and I will go with them again but nobody is aware of what we are doing.”

“I want to emphasize that this is nonpolitical, we are all concerned because it is about the rights of people of Changli that have been violated and we are going to get justice for them and therefore I want Chief to caution those who are in the media politicizing this matter” Chairman Sunday stated further.

For his part, the Tamale Dakpema, Naa Fuseini Bawa commended Dr Ibrahim Anyars for his kind gesture and the leadership of the New Patriotic Party for the timely intervention.

“I wasn’t pleased with the information I gathered from the community and therefore I urged you to ensure peace prevail in the area” Dakpema indicated.

Meanwhile, the NPP Parliamentary hopeful made a cash donation of GHS4, 000 to the victims and several bags of 50kg size sugar to support the victims in the forthcoming Ramadan.

Dr Anyars also visited one of the residents who suffered severe injuries and currently on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

He  supported the family of the victims with another GHS4,000 to pay their hospital bills.
