President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to deliver bold and decisive leadership to address Ghana’s economic crisis, restore good governance, and improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

In his inaugural speech delivered  at the Black Star Square on Tuesday January 7 2025, he assured Ghanaians that the overwhelming mandate they gave him in December’s election would be translated into meaningful change.

“Your courage to bring change will not go in vain,” Mahama declared. “Your vote will matter in the work I will do to make a difference in the destiny of this dear nation of ours.”

Acknowledging the economic hardships that have plagued Ghanaians in recent years, Mahama promised to reset the nation’s trajectory, emphasizing the need for humility, accountability, and decisive action in governance.

“Our country has urgently needed leadership with an unwavering desire to get things done,” he said. “I intend to be that leader, exercising sound judgment and making the right calls at the right time.”

The president also outlined a vision for strengthening Ghana’s public health systems in the face of global health threats, addressing the climate crisis, and preparing for future pandemics.

“When, and not if, the next pandemic or epidemic occurs, the loss of lives in Ghana must be minimal,” Mahama stated.

Beyond economic recovery, Mahama called for unity and collaboration among Ghanaians to overcome the challenges ahead.

Reflecting on the significance of democracy, he reaffirmed his commitment to governance that delivers tangible benefits to all citizens.

“Our people understand that democracy is not just a token adorned with periodic elections,” he said. “If democracy is celebrated as a superior means of governance, then its outcomes must be more tangible and benefit them in their individual lives.”
