The Zoomlion Ghana Limited today Thursday, 2 April, 2020 disinfected a total of one hundred and nine markets across the thirteen metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the northern region as part of the national disinfection exercise.

The exercise happened simultaneously across the MMDAs and about seven hundred personnel of Zoomlion Ghana and some volunteers were deplored in the region to spray the markets, lorry stations and other public spaces and institution to control the spread of the coronavirus disease.

Security officers including personnel of the Ghana Police Service, Military and the National Ambulance Service were on patrol to ensure full compliance of the public during the exercise.

Speaking to journalists whilst the disinfection exercise was ongoing, the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Salifu Saeed commended traders of the various markets and the public for the total adherence to the President’s directive for the exercise.

He said after 24 hours people can come back to continue their economic activities in the metropolis.

However, he urged the people to maintain hygienic conditions in the markets and all other environments they find themselves in order to avoid contracting the disease.

He explained government’s effort is geared towards protecting the public in the wake of the pandemic outbreak in the country, therefore, advising residents of Tamale to continue observing the social distancing, hand washing among the personal protection measures laid out by government.

The minister thanked the Chiefs and Religious leaders of Tamale for supporting government and praying day and night in this difficult time.

Meanwhile chlorine solution was used in spraying the markets and according to Nana Yaw Barima Twum Sarkodie, an officer of Zoomlion Ghana, the chemical is a World Health Organization approved drug to combat the coronavirus disease and other bacteria influenzas.

He disclosed the chemical has a 6.5 PHD and friendly to human beings and therefore assured this cannot cause harm to public.
