The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region has arrested a man believed to be in his 50s for allegedly defiling a child of 14 years and impregnating her.
Information gathered by The Custodian Online shows that the man, upon hearing that the teenager was pregnant, secretly took her to a private clinic to cause an abortion.
The information further revealed that the suspect, on Friday, February 13, 2026, went to the child’s school, where he picked her up to take her to the clinic for the abortion.
The child’s family got alarmed when she did not return home after school. Family sources confirmed to The Custodian online that the 14-year-old returned home on Sunday, February 15, after 48 hours of her being missing.
The family interrogated her upon her return, where she disclosed what transpired. The family also conducted physical search of her body, where they observed that she was bleeding.
She was consequently rushed to the hospital for medical attention, but laboratory examination and tests showed that she had undergone an unsuccessful abortion.
The matter was then reported to the police to arrest the suspect. However, some unknown traditional leaders have called for the release of the suspect for the case to be settled at home.
As a result, the father of the girl, Afa Mohammed, in an exclusive interview, made a passionate appeal to the government and non-governmental organisations to intervene.
He called for the suspect to face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have commenced investigations into the matter, and information obtained at DOVVSU indicates that the suspect will be arraigned before the court on Wednesday.
