The main contender of the Minority Leader of Parliament in the 2020 Parliamentary race on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tamale South constituency, Yakubu Yussif has presented sewing machines and hair drying machines and its accessories to support the work of some tailoring and hairdressing shops in the constituency.

About 30 individual hairdressing shop operators and 6 tailoring shop owners benefited from the economic empowerment intervention to support their work.

Accordingly, the tools would be used to train young aspiring ones in these shops.

Some of the beneficiaries after receiving the items promised to vote for the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Yakubu Yussif and Nana Akufo-Addo.

Memuna Mustapha, a Hairdresser Master thanked the NPP PC for equipping them. She said the items donated to them are far important to their work than money that anybody will give them.

She therefore vowed to vote for the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo and Yakubu Yussif together with her trainees whom she indicated are first time voters.

Another beneficiary and Organiser of the Hairdressers Association, Madam Augustina noted this is the first time a politican in the constituency has advanced this kind of support to them.

She said, “When Mr. Yussif promised us we didn’t take him serious, we thought he was just doing politics with us but we are happy together with our apprentices.”

She added, “What he has done for us, we will vote for him and Nana Akufo-Addo to say thank you.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of the NPP in the Tamale South Constituency, Alhaji Mohammed Hashmin together with some of his executives presented the items on behalf of the parliamentary candidate on Wednesday, 25 November, 2020, ahead of the general election.

According to Alhaji Hashmin, the donation follows an appeal made by the Tailors and the Hairdressers to NPP candidate few weeks ago when he met them to canvass for votes ahead of this year’s general election.

He explained the gesture is part of measures taken by the NPP Member of Parliament hopeful to retool the beneficiaries to be efficient and more productive to improve their economic independence.

The Chairman in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN promised more of these economic interventions would be done when the NPP candidate is voted on 7 December to represent Tamale South constituency in Parliament and President Nana Akufo-Addo returns to the Jubilee House.

Alhaji Hashmin said change is imminent and visible and expressed optimism that the NPP would emerge victorious in the constituency after the 2020 polls, stating that, “If the assurance we are getting from the constituents across the constituency is something to go by then Hon Yakubu Yussif will win unseat the minority leader and Nana Addo will be President again.”

The late Mustapha Ali Idris won then Gukpegu/Sabonjida constituency now Tamale South on the ticket of the NPP but lost it to now Minority Leader in 2004.

Chairman Hashmin assured the party will recapture the seat now that the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis has been resolved, attributing vote buying and the chieftaincy impasse to reasons why the NDC has been winning the seat all these years.
