The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Ghanaians particularly Christians, to use the occasion of Easter toa intensify supplications and prayers to God to find favour with the world in the light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The party urged Christians to give proper meaning to the very essence of Easter and take a cue from the sacrifices of Jesus Christ.
In a statement by the General Secretary, John Boadu, to celebrate the Easter, he urged Christians to sacrifice for the underprivileged in society through generous contributions, especially in this period of heightened restrictions and lockdowns.
“We should also use this occasion to reflect and revive our commitment to the cause of national development,” he said.
According to him, the Easter is meant to commemorate the death and subsequent resurrection of Jesus Christ, which marks the very anchor of Christianity.
This, he said, shows the acknowledgment and appreciation of the sacrifices of Jesus and his eventual triumph over the devil for the salvation of mankind.
He noted that the COVID-19, which has become the biggest threat to human survival in many decades with 1.4 million infections globally and 83,000 deaths has had incalculable impact on the global economy and the livelihood of people.
“The situation in Ghana, unfortunately, is not any different from this global malaise as we continue to record rising cases of COVID-19.”
“We are however lucky to be blessed with a President, who has, thus far, shown exemplary leadership in this period of crisis, both in words and in deeds, to the admiration of world leaders who have not missed any opportunity to heap plaudits on the Ghanaian leader,” he said.
He urged Ghanaians to continue to make life-saving sacrifices by strictly observing the various health protocols needed to stave off the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The NPP, he said, believes beyond the laudable measures being rolled out by President Akufo-Addo and the government, it will take God’s intervention to overcome this global health crisis.
He averred that the commitment demonstrated by the government and the overwhelming support of Ghanaians will ensure that sooner than later, Ghana will defeat the deadly virus and added, “Indeed, as we always say, this too shall pass to the glory of God and country.”
