Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, has lamented the disconnect between the legislature and the executive arm of government.
According to him, the gap between Parliament and the executive is what can truly be described ‘social distance.”
“The gap is very wide,” he stated.
The MP was speaking at a meeting organized by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in collaboration with the Leadership of Parliament with some Committee Chairmen and Ranking Members on Wednesday 3rd June 2020.
He said, “The only time you see a minister is when he has something on the floor of Parliament. The only time you see the President is when he is coming for State of the Nation Address.”
“The system working here, the difference between the legislature and the executive is what we now call social distance.”
“MPs do not even get the opportunity to interact with members of the executive including the President,” he lamented.
According to him, Ministers only come to Parliament to answer questions and as soon as they are done, they take their files and go away.
