The New Patriotic Party in the northern region has instituted a fact finding committee to investigate complaints of some members of the party in the Wulensi constituency after the parliamentary primaries in the area.
Some irate group of the NPP went on rampage and threatened to burn down the constituency office of the party.
This was after the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency Mr. Thomas Donkor Ogajah won the primaries with 212 votes to beat his only contender Haruna Abdulai with just 2 votes.
However, the aggrieved youth said the results of the elections did not represent their choice. The angry supporters further accused the constituency executives of smuggling ghost names onto the register
Director of Communication of the NPP, Mr. Sule Salifu in an interview with the CUSTODIAN said the party has created an avenue for all dissatisfied aspirants to pursue in order for their grievances to be heard for an amicable solution.
He disclosed the Regional Executive Committee of the NPP led by Chairman Samba met with all the parliamentary candidates elect a day after the polls, the vanquish and all constituency executives, stating further that, “Certain issues were raised and we’ve to investigate it, so Chairman Samba has tasked a team to investigate this matter and report back to him so that we can see how to address the matter.”
When asked how soon the committee will complete its work and submit its report to the Chairman, the former NPP Regional Secretary indicated this depends on how far the committee works.
Nevertheless, he added that, “We are not interested in how soon the committee will work but we are interested in getting an amicable solution to this because Wulensi is our seat and we cannot afford to lose it under Chairman Samba.”
“So the most important thing is to get the facts right, see how we can bring the party together to have a united front going into the 2020 general elections” Sule Salifu added.
