President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritize the purchase of locally assembled vehicles as their first option of acquisitions.
The directive also applies to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as well as State-Owned Agencies that intend to procure new vehicles.
The Ministry of Trade is expected to provide information on the companies that are assembling vehicles in the country.
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare indicated that the policy decision will not only help industrialize the economy but also boost employment, encourage investment, and help Government preserve foreign exchange.
“All MDAs, MMDAs, and other Government establishments are to take note of the policy for compliance.
“You are further reminded that the directive to seek approval from the Office of the Chief of Staff prior to initiating any process for procurement of vehicles remains in enforce.
“Thanks and counting on your usual cooperation,” statement concluded.
