Minister for Business Development, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for the peaceful conduct of the ongoing voters’ registration exercise in the northern region. Dr Mohammed Awal after visiting the Mion, Gushegu, Karaga and Nanton constituencies to end his two day working tour of the region said he was impressed with the level of cooperation between the elections management body and agents of the various political parties.
Alhaji Awal observed calmness at the registration centres he monitor the exercise in the company of some Regional and Constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but was quick add that, the little disagreement among members of the political parties was normal in the conduct of the process.
“But I want to commend the EC so well for a very smooth registration exercise so far and I also want to praised both NDC and NPP agents for the cooperation they have exhibited in the areas we have been supervise the exercise” he said.
Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal advised the applicants especially sympathizers of the political parties against violence that will disrupt the process. He noted the exercise is a democratic process to elect the President and Members of Parliament to steer the affairs of Ghana and therefore implored the citizenry to maintain the peaceful coexistence.
He added, “We should keep that essence of unity and cooperation so that come end of this exercise, Ghanaians will be better off”. The minister said the number of applicants who registered successfully before close of the first phase is encouraging particularly at these rural constituencies.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) believes the high turnout across the country is an indication of anxiety in Ghanaians to voter out President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government.
However, Alhaji Mohammed Awal said the electorates are the best judges to determine who leads.
“I think Ghanaians would want a leader who has demonstrated that he cares for the people in terms of policies and programs and if that is the criteria, I think His Excellency President Nana Akufo-Addo will be retained with a resounding victory” he argued.
The Business Development Minister as part of the tour paid courtesy calls on the Mionlana Mahamadu Abdulai, Gushe Naa Abdulai Mahamadu Shitobu I, Chief of Tampion and the Chief of Zoggu.
