Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development Dr Mustapha Abdul Hamid has stated that the 2020 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama has no vision to transform Ghana, challenging him to mention one policy his administration initiated to transform the country.
NDC, he noted, has not introduced any notable social intervention policy to transform the nation and drastically improve the living conditions of the citizenry in its 27 years of governance of the country.
According to him, every transformational idea that Ghanaians are enjoying today is an initiative by governments of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr Abdul Hamid pointed out that policies such as the National Health Insurance, Metro Mass Transit, Ghana National School Feeding Programme, the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, the Capitation Grant, free Maternal Healthcare, free Senior High School, Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) and the Zongo Development, One Village, One Dam; One District, One Factory are among the key social intervention programmes the NPP initiated and implemented over the years.
The Inner Cities and Zongo Development Minister made these remarks in Tamale last Friday at the launch of the NPP northern region campaign team. NPP inaugurated a 35-member team to prosecute the 2020 campaign with set objectives.
The campaign team is to work assiduously to achieve “Agenda Win 15 Seats” in the northern region and retain President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and NPP in power.
Call for debate
During his recent tour of the Volta region, Mr John Mahama challenged President Nana Akufo-Addo to debate on a common platform on their infrastructure achievements.
The former President believes this will settle the matter once and all for as to who has achieved more in building infrastructure in his first four years.
However, Dr Hamid recounted that in 2008, then running mate of the NDC, Mr Mahama told Ghanaians that, “If you vote for somebody because of roads, schools, hospitals and interchanges then you have a weak mind because in his view every government build roads, hospitals, schools and interchanges among others.
“Now, let us agree with candidate Mahama that as for building infrastructure every government does that. What this means is that people vote for governments based on all other matters except these ones, so let’s ask the NDC that ever since they have ruled this country, they should show us just one transformational agenda that they have done that is changing the lives of the Ghanaian people apart the roads and hospitals that they say we should take out”.
Accordingly, the former Minister for Information said the NDC is not a political party that has the vision to develop Ghana.
He argued that if NDC had any idea to transform the country, it would have done so in its 27 years history of governing the country.
Mahama’s inconsistency
Dr Abdul Hamid chided former President John Mahama for being inconsistent with matters pertaining to the governance of the country.
According to him, leadership needs somebody who is focused, who has a vision, who is very resolute and who is very firm, adding that “leadership doesn’t want someone who is indecisive, clueless and flip-flop”.
He described the former President as someone whose decisions follows the direction of the wind.
“You said free SHS will collapse Ghana’s education system, now you say you will maintain free SHS; you said you will never restore teacher and nursing trainee allowance even if you will lose your presidency, today you say you will maintain teacher and nursing trainee allowance; you said new registration is not important for new voter’s register the next day you were in Bole struggling to register, first you said National ID card is not good, Ghanaians should boycott it, you were in the queue struggling to register for your ID card”, Dr Abdul Hamid pointed out, asking, “What does John Mahama stand for?
