The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate vying to wrestle with the Minority Leader and MP for the Tamale South Constituency in the upcoming 2020 general elections, Mr. Yakubu Yussif has chronicled a number of interventions and programs he has introduced and implemented in the constituency in the last few years to meet the needed development of the people.
Mr. Yussif disclosed that a three unit classroom block is almost complete at Dabokpa Vocational/Technical Senior High School, a fence wall being constructed at the Kalariga age old cemetery, a street lighting project along the Kalariga ring road to Lamashegu roundabout.
He added quite apart from that, a transformer has also been secured to extend electricity to Chanzeni.
The NPP Member of Parliament hopeful said but for his intervention this wouldn’t have been done by the NDC Member of Parliament after his 16 year reign in the constituency.
The Programs Manager at the Business Development Ministry said he has also lobbied government agencies and ministries to bring development to the people, stating, “Go to Kakpagyili a lot of things are happening, the road from Kakpagyili to Dohani. If you go to Dungu Kukuo a three classroom block, toilet facility and a mechanized borehole, a CHPS Compound at Gukpegu Tua and six unit toilet facility and a mechanized borehole there”.
“This makes me a better alternative to win the seat because even the incumbent MP knows how he got to parliament in 2004. You don’t need to be a Deputy Minister or Minister to win Tamale South constituency. The people kept him there and they are saying they will vote for me to become the next MP to see how development will fasten in the constituency and I don’t doubt them because they can remove you without consulting anyone”.
“Their decision to choose me is because all these things that I am doing in the constituency in effect is solving some of the critical problems they are facing which hitherto weren’t done”.
Hon Yakubu Yussif made this known to THE CUSTODIAN when he participated in cleanup exercise organized by the youth and women groups in the Kalariga/Dabokpa electoral area last Sunday.
He commended the people for taking up such laudable self-help initiative to improve upon sanitation in the community. The New Patriotic Party PC indicated he was encouraged by the factor that the exercise was organized by women groups and the youth, whom, he lamented, suffers the consequences of poor sanitation issues in the society.
He recounted in the past series of such self-initiated exercises were organize known as communal labor to keep the environment clean but lamented, however, that people have relaxed now to do such good exercises.
“Apart from improving upon the sanitation conditions, it is again to foster unity among the people in this community because if you look at the composition of the people no one will doubt that it is nonpartisan”
Therefore, he urged other groups and communities in the area to emulate the steps taken by the people at kalariga/Dabokpa.
“So if today, these women decide to resurrect this kind of exercise, we must applaud them and that is why I didn’t hesitate when they invited me to join”
Meanwhile, the CUSTODIAN can report that sanitation is major developmental bottleneck in some communities in the constituency. The most recent incident happened at Lamashegu North where residents had to cry out for government intervention.
The sanitation minister directed Zoomlion waste management company to clear the heap of refuse before the outbreak of any epidemic disease. The health and safety of the people were threatened as a result of the stench caused by the garbage.
