The Swedru Divisional Police command has arrested four men allegedly hired to kill the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Agona West, Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison.
Mrs Morrison is also the Minister for Children, Gender and Social Protection who is seeking re-election to represent the people of Agona West in Parliament.
According to information gathered, the four suspects were among a group of five, who had lodged at the Elohim Hotel in Agona Swedru in the Central region, hatching how to execute their plot when the police raided the hotel.
Police situation report gave the names of the four suspects as Saddick Abubakar, Gordon Kunya, Isaac Addea and Dauda Fatua.
Items found on them in the hotel rooms include knifes, cutlasses and two cheques in the sum of GH¢5,000.00 each.
The fifth suspect escaped upon seeing the police.
Sources within the Regional Police Command said the suspects mentioned the name of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Paul Ofori Amoah, as the one who brought them to the area.
Paul Ofori Amoah was subsequently picked up Saturday evening by the police for questioning.
Even though Mr. Amoah admitted that he knew the suspects, he denied claims that they were plotting to eliminate the sitting MP.
The report said the suspects have been “detained and exhibits retained for further action”.
The alleged assassination plot comes barely a week after the gruesome murder of the NPP Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Hayford Ekow Quansah.
It is feared that such assassination plots may heighten in the lead up the cruel general election on December 7, hence the need for first class intelligence gathered to foil such wicked plans.
