The Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has commissioned a Nursing Training College at Nkanchina in the Kpandai district in the northern region.

The facility according to the Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam used to house people who suffered leprosy during the Kwame Nkrumah regime.

He said the college is the first tertiary institution in the area and further described it as unprecedented achievement of the Akufo-Addo government.

“We are very proud of the NPP government” he said.

The Kpandai lawmaker reiterated that the Kwame Nkrumah government built the facility to cater for people who unfortunately were affected by leprosy in the country, stressing that, “It was a clinic for the patients to be properly taken care of.”

Addressing a durbar of Chiefs before the commissioning ceremony, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia said plans are also far advanced for commencement of work on the construction of the Kpandai District Hospital.

He noted the preliminary approval for the project has been completed and the contractors are expected to move to site very soon for the start of work under the government’s agenda 111 New District Hospitals across the country.

Dr Bawumia said the infrastructure growth happening in the country is a development in action.

He also reiterated that Nana Akufo-Addo will make university education very accessible to every Ghanaian child who completes senior high school and passed the WASSCE examination.

“One of the things that Nana Akufo-Addo wants me to tell you is that our children who finish senior high school, who wants to go to the university, Nana Akufo-Addo wants all of them to have access to university education” he told the Chiefs and people gathered.

Alhaji Bawumia emphasised further that, “We know that university education also cost money and many of our children their parents do not have the money to pay so we are going to make sure that if a student passes the exams and qualifies to go to university and doesn’t the money government is going to pay the money for the children through the Students Loan.”

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP stated all these interventions wouldn’t have been possible if John Mahama and the NDC were in power.

Therefore, he asked the Chiefs and people of Kpandai to vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo and maintain the NPP MP for the area who doubles as Majority Deputy Chief Whip.

“You’ve always voted for Mathew Nyindam and not Nana Akufo-Addo. Please vote for both President Nana Akufo-Addo and Nyindam” he implored them.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs in the district thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for the college.

“We are happy that this facility will serve as a catalyst for the enhancement of our Human Resource Development in this district” the Chiefs added.
