A research conducted by the Institute of Research, Innovation and Development (IRID) of the Kumasi Technical University has indicated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will win the December 7, 2020 general election by 56.6 percent.
Presidential candidate of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Mahama, according to the survey, will obtain 38.8 percent of the votes in the polls.
The survey, which was conducted with a sample size of 8,810 in November, also predicted that the NPP will win in seven out of the 16 regions namely Western, Ashanti, Eastern, Bono, Central, North-East and Ahafo.
It also indicated that it was likely for the NDC to win the majority of seats in seven out of the 16 regions of Volta, Oti, Northern, Western-North, Upper West, Upper East and Savannah.
However, the survey noted that any of the two parties can win the Greater Accra and Bono East Regions.
“Overall, the NPP is most likely to secure a one-touch victory with a minimum of 51.4 per cent with the NDC coming second with a maximum of 47.1 per cent,” the findings of the research revealed.
According to the research, 70.9 per cent of the respondents who took part in the research, attributed their decision to vote for the NPP to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy initiated by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
Thirty-three per cent of the respondents also indicated that they will vote for the NPP based on its achievements in the road sector while 29.1 per cent noted that they will vote for the party due to the Planting for Food and Jobs Initiative.
Also, 22.8 per cent of the respondents indicated that they will vote based on issues of health while 25.5 per cent said they would vote based on access to free water.
Additionally, 28.5 per cent said their vote would be based on the provision of electricity and 28.5 per cent based on corruption.
