Chief Zunglana, Col (Rtd) Alhaji Mahamoud Tahiru, an aspiring Council of State Candidate in the northern region has promised to work assiduously in order to bring the needed development to the people when elected to represent the region into the yet to be constituted Council of State.
The traditional leader said despite the constitutional mandate of members of the Council of State, he will seize the opportunity to lobby ministries, departments and agencies and other development partners to ameliorate the economic and social predicaments of the people.
Speaking to THE CUSTODIAN in an exclusive interview Wednesday, 10 February, 2021, the 63 year old retired military officer believes he has gain the necessary experience and outlook to offer proficient advice and guidance to the President and together with members of the Council contribute immensely to national development.
“I am offering myself, to sacrifice, to offer the President possible and good advice in all areas he may require us to do. However, we can say that the position come with some prestige and ability to knock on doors, so this is where I can help my constituency or my people.
“And you can imagine if you’re in your office and your secretary tells you that Zunglana, a member of Council of State is here to see you, you will quickly attend to me and I would tell you about the challenges facing my people and that way I would be able to help my MPs either individually or collectively to solve problems in the society” he intimated.
Naa Alhaji Mahamoud Tahiru highlighted said education would also be key among his agenda to propel to growth and development in the region and pledged to impress on President Akufo-Addo to invest more in the sector particularly in the north.
He promised not to be an armchair leader and further assured to operate an open door policy where everybody can bring forth issues that bothers on development to be addressed.
Meanwhile, six candidates are running to be elected as the representative of the northern region in the council of state.
Northern Regional Director of the electoral commission, Mr. Lucas Yiryil confirmed the following personalities filed at the closed of nomination: Col (Rtd) Mahamoud Tahiru, Abdul Rashid Mohammed, Abubakari Sadiq, Ras Mubarak, Andani Alhassan and Mahamud Alhassan.
