Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been applauded for his unquestionable loyalty and dedication to serve Ghana and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the years.
Former Speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye who gave the plaudits, acknowledged the incredible contributions of Dr Bawumia to the NPP as both running mate and Vice President.
Sharing his thoughts on a variety of topics in an interview by Raymond Kumah’s Okyeman TV, Prof. Oquaye recalled the remarkable job Dr. Bawumia did for the NPP in the famous election petition after the 2012 presidential polls.
According to him, “Vice President Bawumia brought the pink sheet concept and the appreciation of pink sheets in Ghana’s elections’ results. He opened our eyes to the idea of pink sheets”.
This, the former Speaker observed, helped the party in organising itself very well for the 2016 elections whose results went in favour of the NPP.
NPP’s fortunes, he maintained, would have diminished in the 2016 general election without Bawumia’s dedication to serve the party, boldness to mount the witness box at the Supreme Court, and the application of his knowledge in Mathematics and Statistics.
These, he observed, have been some of the contributions of Dr. Bawumia to the success story of the NPP.
Prof. Oquaye urged party members to elevate Bawumia to the position of the party’s presidential candidate when the time comes.
Innovative ideas for Ghana
The former Speaker of Ghana’s 7th Parliament stated that for a solid future to be ensured for the good people of Ghana, Vice President Bawumia must be elected president.
He touted the life-changing policy initiatives spearheaded by Dr. Bawumia as the Chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT), which are engines that will see to the continuous growth and development of the economy.
When asked how he sees the future of Ghana under Bawumia, Prof. Oquaye said “It would be fantastic if we are able to continue with this digitalisation and automation, including ICT of Dr. Bawumia”
The former Professor of political science at the University of Ghana, Legon, enumerated a number of innovative ideas, which have helped stall revenue leakages at the country’s entry points.
“The GPS Addressing System, Mobile Money Interoperability, Digitalization in renewing National Health Insurance, etc are some of the many technological advancements Vice President Bawumia has brought into the system,” he added.
Prof. Oquaye observed that the country cannot continue to implement the same policies and ideas which have not yielded much results.
He said Dr. Bawumia’s digitalisation tools and methods are helping to rake in billions of cedis while eliminating the bureaucratic barriers in the system.
Bawumia’s superb performance
For emphasis, Professor Oquaye described the performance of Vice President Bawumia over the years as top notch.
Describing the Vice President’s performance as exceptional, the former Speaker said, “Dr. Bawumia has been superb. His performance is A-plus”.
He stressed that most of the policies Bawumia has introduced with the backing of President Nana Akufo-Addo have brought sunshine to a lot of areas.
“Look at the ports, he realized that revenues were not forthcoming and people were engaged in all manner of nefarious means”, he said.
He emphasised that Bawumia introduced digitization to stem this cancerous phenomenon.
The political science professor and lawyer opined that the digitalization of the economy is helping in removing the bottlenecks in the country’s revenue generation efforts and the overall development trajectory of the country.
