Even though the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is yet to commence its reorganisation process ahead of 2024 general election, its Greater Accra Regional Chairman is already sweating over bid to get re-elected.
Mr Joseph Ade Coker, fondly referred to as Chairman Ade, who is supposed to be cooling off in London, is apparently having sleepless nights.
THE CUSTODIAN has learnt that he is placing calls to influential people in Greater Accra NDC to either lobby or ‘destroy’ forces who want to kick him out of office and deprive him of fourth consecutive four-year term in office next year.
Mr Ade Coker who escaped defeat narrowly with 8 votes in Legon in 2018, NDC insiders believe, is not likely to survive this time around if strategies are not deployed tactically.
This paper gathered that Chairman Ade has always exploited that fact many people contested him, making him win marginally.
In 2018, he got fierce contest from Daniel Amartey former MCE for Ledzokuku /Krowor Municipal Assembly and Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore who is also a former MP for Adentan Constituency among others.
This time around, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman Ade is extremely hot because he will be facing former Constituency Chairman for Ningo-Prampram Michael Tetteh who almost defeated Sam George in August 2019 NDC primaries.
After losing painfully with 7 votes in Ningo Prampram, this paper can confirm that Mr Tetteh is coming with full force to unseat Ade Coker come what may.
Interestingly, Ade Coker supported his imminent challenger against Sam George in the last primaries but as it is panning out, these two good friends will be facing-off in what is anticipated to be fierce competition.
This paper has gleaned that Mr Sam George has reportedly started lobbying Greater Accra NDC MPs to throw their weight behind Mr Tetteh in order for him to enjoy his peace and smooth sailing in Ningo-Prampram.
It is further gathered that it will be to the advantage of the MP if this former contender is pushed out of Ningo Prampram to an executive position of the main opposition party.
Mr Tetteh is known as a political colossus in NDC as he finances the party’s events.
NDC sources indicated that in 2020 election, he adopted more than 30 constituencies across the country with heavy cash.
After realising that Michael is not only resourceful with financial strength but also goodwill from MPs and many party bigwigs, Chairman Ade’s hope will only be God but his opponents argue that Mr Tetteh Michael is also God’s Son.
In addition to Mr Tetteh, this paper is also learning that Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore who is also a good friend to Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, MP for Ada will also stage a comeback.
Earlier this year, the former Adentan MP together with his friend lawmaker who is also the second Deputy Minority Whip in Parliament, was reported to have met with some constituency chairmen in Ada where about GH¢1,000 was reportedly given to every constituency chairman present.
Former MCE for Amasaman, Sam Attukwei Quaye, THE CUSTODIAN has learnt, is also planning to join the regional chairmanship contest.
