The Ministry of Energy has expressed delight that the Eni Group has made a significant oil discovery in Block 4 offshore Ghana.
The Energy Ministry said the well of the discovery is located approximately 50 kilometres off the coast and about 8 kilometres north-west of the Sankofa hub where the John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO is located.
The well deliverability potential has been estimated at 5000 barrels of oil per day, similar to the wells already in production from the Sankofa field.
Eni has been present in Ghana since 2009 and accounts for a gross production of about 80,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The Ministry said the company has been a valuable partner in the petroleum industry and, therefore, expects that the warm relations that exist between Ghana and Eni, will be consolidated further with this new discovery.
