Former President John Dramani Mahama

Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region, Mohammed Issah, has labeled former President John Dramani Mahama as a man who has lost touch with the people and therefore not fit to contest elections anymore.

According to him, no serious political party will take the chance of selecting the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to represent them in a competitive election. He argued that the fortunes of NDC continued to dwindle in every election season since the 2008 running mate of the late President John Evans Atta Mills took over the leadership mantle of the party in 2012.

The NPP Communication Director noted that Mr. Mahama was bequeathed with a solid political party, and in his view, the NDC has lost its glory particularly in the north which used to be a safe haven for the party, blaming it on the bad leadership of the former Head of State.

Former President Mahama in a recent statement delivered on his behalf by the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Mr. Yussif Sulemana, during this year’s Eidul-Adha celebration hinted that he is likely to stage a comeback to contest elections in the NDC.

This explicitly explains the intentions of Mr. Mahama to contest the 2024 general election on the ticket of the largest opposition party in Ghana.

Reacting to this announcement, Mr. Mohammed Issah in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN said it is obvious that the former President would comeback for 2024.

However, he stated the NPP will never be perturbed about that.

He noted that the outcome of the 2020 polls in the Savannah region is evident that John Mahama has lost the grounds.

Mr Issah explained that President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP nearly took away majority parliamentary seats in the home region of former President Mahama, which hitherto was a fertile ground for the NDC.

“In terms of development which will carry the order of the day in 2024, we would look at who has developed what and where. And when you come to the Savannah region and look at the work that President Akufo-Addo has done, the numerous infrastructure projects, I am not sure the Ex-President can campaign even in the Savannah region that was created by the NPP administration” he intimated.
