President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Savelugu rice processing factory under the flagship one district one factory initiative with funding from the Rural Enterprise Program (REP) through the 1D1F Common User Facility (CUM) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI).
The factory cost a total amount of Gh¢7.3 million covering the cost of factory structure, processing plant, office and other ancillary facilities and equipment among others.
Other installations in the factory include modern parboiling, milling and packaging machinery, a standby power plant and a mechanized borehole for frequent water supply.
The state-of-art Savelugu rice processing factory is expected to produce between 1.5 to 2.8 tonnes of rice within an hour.
Nana Akufo-Addo visited the Yoo Naa Palace to interact with the Paramount Chief, Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani V as part of his two-day working tour of the northern region on Saturday.
The Yoo Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani V in his speech said the importance of the rice processing factory in the socioeconomic growth of the Savelugu municipality cannot be underestimated.
He noted it would add value to the production of rice, increase income of farmers and job creation for the teeming unemployed youth.
The Yoo Naa further commended the Akufo-Addo government’s numerous policy interventions and projects introduced across various sectors in the country to bring economic freedom to the people.
“We appreciate the numerous programs and developmental projects in the areas of education, health, agriculture, sanitation and water, which are being implemented by your government for the benefit of our people”
President Nana Akufo-Addo also thanked the Chief and his subjects for the immense support during the 2020 general election.
He further expressed his gratitude to the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II, Yoo Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani V and Mionlana Abdulai Mahamadu III for the landmark achievement that brought reconciliation, peace and unity to the Dagbon kingdom.
He further assured that Savelugu would benefit one of the agenda 111 government hospitals earmarked to rigorously uplift the infrastructure needs in the health of the country.
