President Nana Akufo-Addo has extolled the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II, for working assiduously to promote the reconciliation process and unity in the Dagbon State.

The President said the prevailing peace in the area is a matter of delight and joy seeing the Overlord sitting on the ancient skin over a united kingdom.

“I don’t think there is anybody, either in Dagbon or in Ghana who today can regret or quarrel with your ascension to the Namship of Dagbon – you’re the proper fitting person to sit on that seat today”

Nana Akufo-Addo made these remarks when he paid a courtesy call to the Gbewa palace on Friday (6 August, 2021) as part of his two-day working tour of the northern region to thank the Chiefs and people of the area for their massive support for his reelection as President of Ghana at the 2020 polls.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their arch rivals the opposition National Democratic Congress now share the eighteen parliamentary seats in the northern region apiece.

Nana Akufo-Addo intimated by the grace of the Almighty the governing NPP will win the majority parliamentary seats in the 2024 general elections to become the majority party in the region.

Meanwhile, the Ya Naa in his speech appealed to the government to speed up the construction works on the $30 million Yendi Water Supply Project to end the perennial water crisis in the municipality.

He thus commended the MP for the area, Farouk Aliu Mahama for his timely intervention in the supply of portable drinking water through the construction of mechanized boreholes in many parts of the constituency.

However, Nana Akufo-Addo in his response said the project is ready for implementation and a contractor is expected to move on site for commencement of work before close of the year.

He also assured that the infrastructure for the Yendi campus of University for Development Studies will be ready before his tenure of office expires in 2025.
