An aspiring National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng also known as ‘Asabee’ has given hope to members of the party overseas to keep loving and supporting the party.
Asabee who was invited to chair the inauguration of the Duisburg Chapter of the party in Germany took advantage of the occasion to announce to his compatriots of his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position when nominations open.
He assured them of turning things around and giving them reasons to be more dedicated to the affairs of the party and be hopeful for better outcomes.
Asabee told the Germany branch of the NPP he will actualize the long-taken decision to make members of the diaspora part of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
This decision has been in the files for years without being attended to, after several calls from the diaspora community to have it implemented have failed.
He also told them that he will be pushing for appointment of about 40 to 60 percent of party members in government when the party is in power.
According to him, the party that works hard to win power should be given at least 40 percent stake in the appointment of members to various positions. Accordingly, some core party loyalists skilled for jobs and who may not be known to the presidency would be appointed by the party in order to satisfy members at every length.
“I have come into the race to bridge the gap between government and the party, and I assure you that if this is done, we shall be able to satisfy majority of our party members in order to reduce the growing unsatisfactory remarks from our party’s grassroots,” he pointed.
Asabee also assured them that the party’s international desk will be more responsive to their calls and needs in his time as National Chairman and give them a stronger feel of membership of the party.
The aspiring national chairman who himself had been a front liner of the party in diaspora for many years also assured them of better recognition for their immense contributions to the party, including matters such as registration of party members and issuing of ID cards among others.
Members present at the launch could not but applaud him throughout his speech with some wondering why he has not been in the stead all this while.
Asabee also had the opportunity to join the United Kingdom branch in their delegates conference, sharing with them same message.
He shared fond memories of how he diligently organised the UK branch known as the Premiere Diaspora branch because it was the branch that gave birth to the New Patriotic Party in Ghana.
His immense efforts as a young man in those days, organizing his senior patriots could not be forgotten.
It would be recalled that his declaration of intent in Ghana a few months ago suddenly brought some energy and heat in the chairmanship race, making delegates believe his main vision of contesting; “I will bring energy into the party.”
Asabee who has served in various positions of the party, from special aid to Deputy Minister, Minister, Member of Parliament and now Director-General of State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) comes into the race with a huge party-government-relationship experience, making him the unrivalled one among other contestants for the position.
