The Gbewa Youth, a Group affiliated to the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has asked the Minority leader of Parliament, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, to come out and declare his presidential ambition. The group declared their unflinching support to the Tamale South legislator and called on him to make his intentions known to the public.
Contrary to this plea, Adam Mohammed Sisudeen, the Secretary of the group said the people of the northern region will not be happy. He emphasized that it is the ambition of every politician in Ghana to become President of the nation.
“Nobody can deter another person from seeking the mandate of the people; the power to choose who becomes a leader is vested in the Ghanaian people. We support him today, we support him tomorrow and we support him forever. He shouldn’t hide his ambition” he affirmed.
Responding to an earlier allegation raised by another NDC group, the Coalition of Youth Groups in the Northern Region, that the Minority leader is sabotaging former President John Dramani Mahama because of his ambitions, Mr. Sisudeen said, “John Mahama was also an MP just like Haruna Iddrisu and had his ambitions. By God’s grace, he achieved it. But it doesn’t mean nobody can express interest in it, it will continue forever, because we do not know who will become President of Ghana again on the ticket of NDC in the future. It is only God who can determine that, therefore, everybody must have his/her ambitions.”
He said those criticizing the Tamale South lawmaker are doing so because of the interest of other people within the party. He therefore, reiterated their interest is also to see Mr. Iddrisu become President of Ghana.
“We are only appealing to Hon Haruna Iddrisu not to be discouraged, he should not be deterred and he should continue all the good things he is doing for the party. He has no boundaries in the region because he is the Minority leader, the northern region is under his care and he can visit any constituency to extend his support to the party” he added.
John Mahama and Haruna Bad blood
Meanwhile, the Gbewa youth have also refuted assertions that there is bad blood between former President Mahama and the Minority leader.
According to the group, the duo are in good terms with each other and have worked together in the interest of the NDC.
“Haruna Iddrisu doesn’t see John Mahama as a party fellow but his senior brother and he has never addressed him either than his senior brother long before he became the NDC running mate and subsequently President of Ghana” the group secretary indicated.
