Former President of Ghana and the National Democratic Congress 2020 Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama has presented an amount of GHS10, 000 to support the final funeral rites of the late Hajia Mariama Bawumia, mother of Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The donation was announced during the performance of the Islamic ritual at the Kperiga School park, Walewale, where the funeral took place today Sunday (24th October, 2021).
The late Mariama Bawumia passed to glory on 13th September, 2021; two days shy of her 82nd birthday anniversary.
Mr Ibrahim Mahama, the younger brother of the former President also donated an amount of GHS20, 000 to support the funeral and commiserated with the Vice President and the bereaved family.
Other individuals and organizations both private and state own institutions contributed various sum of monies to support the funeral.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his spouse, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Chief of Staff Frema Opare stormed the East Mamprusi Municipality to participate and celebrate the life of Hajia Mariama, spouse of the late Mumuni Bawumia.
Hundreds of mourners across all walks of life, the Diplomatic Community, Ministers of State, Chief Executive Officers of State Agencies, Members of Parliament, Traditional Rulers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives were all present to participate in the ceremony.
National party of the governing NPP, the opposition NDC and other minority political parties were present to commiserate with the family of the Vice President.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharabutu led the solemn Islamic ceremony to invoke the blessings, empathy and compassion of the most high God upon the departed soul.
