The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, has expressed his satisfaction for the results obtained by candidates who sat for this year’s West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the region.
He said there has been a very significant improvement in the results obtained by various candidates and the respective schools in the region and indicated further that this is a plus to the educational sector in the region compared to the past.
Nevertheless, Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu noted that there is still room for improvement in subsequent years with the requisite investment from the government into the educational sector.
The Minister said, “I have some number of result slips here with me and I can see that from the Northern Region, we have so many students who have qualified to do medicine and it’s a problem even selecting a number of them and I have sent ten names already to the University for Development Studies waiting for their response”.
Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu mentioned more names are still sent to his office for sponsorship, stating a couple of them are A’s, B’s – very good results have coming in.
He, thus, commended President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Education as well as the Northern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for putting efforts to encourage and motivate teachers for this outcome.
The Minister made these remarks in a media interaction on Friday, December 24, 2021, at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council.
He had previously met with various Heads of Departments and Agencies of State on Thursday to take briefings from the various sectors before close of the year.
“…It will interest you to know that even results coming from the so-call village schools is very encouraging and we want to build on that come next year” he asserted.
Meanwhile, a total of 446,352 candidates made up of 221,439 (49.6%) males and 224,439 (50.4%) females from 965 schools nationwide entered for the examination.
The figure is 18.8% higher than the 2020 figure of 375,763.
