The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, has announced the introduction of Ayalolo Bus Services to improve intra-city transportation in the Tamale metropolis.
He said the state-owned commercial bus service will start operating from the Tamale City Centre to the Dungu campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS).
However, he noted the buses will extended its operations subsequently to the Tamale International Airport, the Tamale Technical University, UDS Nyankpala campus in the Tolon district and other communities to improve intra-city transportation in the northern region.
The Minister made the disclosure during the commissioning of the Tamale interchange by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
“Your Excellency, today’s event also coincides with the introduction of the Ayalolo bus in the Tamale metropolis which will start operation from the Tamale City Centre to the UDS Dungu Campus” he said.
He added, “The services will hopefully be extended to other places such as the Tamale Airport, Tamale Technical University, UDS Nyankpala campus and other places, to improve intra-city transportation.”
Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu believes the monumental edifice will certainly boost the transportation in that direction.
“Once again, on behalf of the Chiefs and People of the Northern Region, I welcome Your Excellency and Your Vice President to this historic moment. The Chiefs and People of the Northern Region will forever remain grateful to Your Excellency and the Government of the NPP for this great initiative and delivery of a wonderful promise. We will cherish this edifice as a lasting gift of the Nana Akufo-Addo Government and generations to come will remember and appreciate Your Excellency, forever.”
Maximizing benefits of edifice
The Minister further called for the cooperation and support of the Chiefs and people of Tamale to handle the facility with the desired attention in order to maximize its benefit.
“Your Excellency, as your representative in the region, I want to assure you that I will work closely with the Mayor of Tamale and the Road Agencies to ensure that we maximize the benefits of this edifice. We would monitor the use of the facility and carry out the required de-congestion in terms of unauthorized buying and selling and unauthorized parking stations along this edifice” he promised.
