The NATO General Secretary, Jens Stoltenberg, in a news conference has stated that the European allies are not part of the on-going conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This came after NATO rejected Ukraine’s request to declare a No-Fly zone on Friday.
“We are not part of this conflict”, said the NATO General- Secretary. In addition, NATO believe it does not want to get directly involved in the conflict as this could cause damage than what is seen.
“We have a responsibility as NATO allies to prevent this war from escalating beyond Ukraine because that would be even more dangerous, more devastating and would cause even more human suffering.” he added.
A no-fly zone may be enforced by deploying NATO fighter jets to shoot down that of the Russian and this would escalate the conflict beyond Ukraine.
Thousands of people are believed to have been killed and more than a million are in refuges have fled Ukraine.
