The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II, has called on the Managing Director of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to as a matter of urgency, immediately restore electricity supply to Koblimahagu in the Tamale metropolis without further delays.
The King has also encouraged the Ghana Police Service to speed up investigation for the arrest of the perpetrators who allegedly attacked workers of the power distribution company earlier this month.
Ndan Ya Naa made the call in his address during the commissioning of the Tamale interchange on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Tamale.
“Let me use this opportunity to condemn the irresponsible behavior of some young men at Koblimahagu, a suburb of Tamale for attacking officials of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company of Ghana (NEDCo)”.
The Ya Naa noted Ghana is a democratic country and due process of the law is imperative and fundamental. However, he indicated it is inappropriate to punish an entire population of a community for the alleged misdeed of some individuals.
There has been a stalemate between workers of NEDCo and residents of Koblimahagu few weeks now following an alleged assault of field officers of the electricity distribution company.

As a result, the community has been in darkness for more two weeks, grounding economic activities and impoverishing the people.
Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Northern Regional Minister among other stakeholders have all intervened in the matter and appealed to NEDCo to restore power in the area.
