NAA ABUKARI ANDANI, the Chief of Zakoli, suburb of the Yendi municipality where the unknown gunmen attacked and killed 8 nomadic herdsmen has appealed to government to connect the community to the national grid.
He said the community is just two miles away from the municipal capital, Yendi, but it has no electricity. He noted however that there are communities beyond Zakoli which are connected to the national grid and the people are enjoying electricity.
“The pylons pass through this community to Saboba to supply electricity to other communities but yet we are not enjoying the national grid.”
Naa Abukar Andani made the appeal in person when the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, traveled to the area on Sunday to commiserate with victims and send a word of assurance on behalf of the government.
The Chief lamented bitterly that the recent attack by the unknown assailants has come to exacerbate the plight of the people.
He added this has also affected major economic activities in the area having a great deal on the livelihood of his subjects years now.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia visited the community in the company of the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama, former Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sa-eed and other officials of government.
Naa Andani stated that it was the first time a high powered government delegation visited the community and as a result commended Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for taking the agony of the people personal to come to the area.
The Yendi Member of Parliament, Farouk Aliu Mahama said the government will soon take the necessary steps to connect the area to the national grid.
