Following a sharp decline in the number of persons thronging the National Identification Authority’s (NIA) special registration centres to register for their national identity cards, the Authority has taken the decision to shut down these special centres.
These centres which were set up at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Greater Accra Region, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region, the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in the Northern Region, the Ho Sports Stadium in the Volta Region, the Sunyani Coronation Park in the Bono Region and the Old Catholic Church at Pedu in the Central Region have seen the over 40,000 registrants recorded in March reduce to about 5,000 in April.
In light of this, all 276 district offices, the 16 regional offices, as well as the Premium Registration Centre at the NIA headquarters and CAL Bank head office remain open to the public.
All persons who registered at the aforementioned special centres except for the Accra Sports Stadium are advised to visit the NIA’s regional office in their region of registration to retrieve their cards.
All applicants who registered at the Accra Sports Stadium but have not received their cards should by today go to the El-Wak Sports Stadium to retrieve their cards. Persons who want to replace their cards or update their personal records can also have these services rendered at El-Wak.
