Following concerns raised by the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) that there is a rise in armed robbery and other crimes in the country, the Ghana Police Service (GPS) has come out to state otherwise.
Over the weekend, a member of the GBA, Richard Badombie was killed by armed men in the Savannah Region. The lawyer was shot in his car between Banda Nkwanta and Nunoyiri along the Bole-Bamboi highway.
In a statement released by the Ghana Police, the Service is assuring ‘the public that there is no upsurge in crime’.
The GPS added that they ‘fight crime everyday and treat every crime with the same urgency and same professional attitude’.
Furthermore, ‘various strategic crime prevention and control interventions to counter violent crime have been deployed by the Police Service’ around identified crime zones.
So far, ‘three suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime and are being interrogated’ according to the Service.
However, the GBA have placed a cash reward of ‘Gh20,000 to anyone who volunteers credible and legitimate information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the prepertrators of the crime’.
