The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) national Chairman hopeful, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, has given commitment to serve the party with sobriety and workable ideas to ensure the internal crisis of the party are resolved.

“Being a party chairman is not about machoism, it’s the minds coming together. When it comes to working and making sure that things work, you can count on me. I am ready to serve the party”, the former minister of state under the Kufuor administration told journalists in Accra yesterday.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi who served in two ministerial portfolios including Education, and Ports and Harbour Ministries in President John Agyekum Kufuor’s government said he owes NPP a lot, hence his desire to serve the party and give back to the Party by securing victory in the 2024 elections.

He however promised to support anybody person who wins the chairmanship race should he fail to get the nod.

The former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast who ended his campaign on Wednesday said it was his strongest conviction that party unity and welfare of the grassroots are the surest way of bringing victory to the 2024 elections.

“People sacrifice with their lives but when we come to power, we forget them. If you want to mobilize them for 2024 you need to treat them well. One way of motivating people is putting in a welfare scheme. Anytime you mention it people say it’s not doable. I say it’s doable. We are able to mobilize funds for elections so we can mobilize funds for the youth too.

“It is up to us to remain united after the primaries and I have promised to work harder at it”, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi asserted.

He was also grateful to the party for what it has done for him, saying, “I feel that the Party has done well for me. But for the Party I would have retired as a professor. I have worked with Nana Addo as a colleague Cabinet Minister so I am in a unique position to involve them to help in resolving the issues.”

Apart from the welfare and the unity, the former MP for Techiman said he is going to ensure that indiscipline in the Party becomes a thing of the past.

“You can’t tell people to go and vote at dawn that is indiscipline. On discipline I am going to be firm,” Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi stressed.
