Minister for Finance Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to present the mid-year review budget to Parliament on July 13, 2022.
The mid-year budget review presentation will come as the country prepares to head to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Unconfirmed date indicates that despite the implementation of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy), government is not generating enough revenue from the new tax measure.
Government is set to begin talks with the IMF for financial assistance with the country’s economy.
This is according to a statement issued by the Minister for Information Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Friday.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorised Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to commence formal engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), inviting the Fund to support an economic programme put together by the Government of Ghana.
“This follows a telephone conversation between the President and the IMF Managing Director, Miss Kristalina Georgievs, conveying Ghana’s decision to engage with the Fund.”
According to the Minister for Information, the decision to go to the IMF was reached at a meeting held on Thursday, 30 June 2022. “The engagement with the IMF will seek to provide balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and, recently, the Russia Ukraine crises.”
