Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah also known as COKA has urged the newly elected leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to find ways of documenting the party’s history now for the future generation to apprehend.
“It is important that the NPP documents the true certified history of the party. This will help future generations appreciate the history of NPP and prevent people from continuously changing and adding on to the founding fathers of our great party”, he urged.
COKA who is the immediate past chairman of the Afigya Kwabre South constituency and was the head of the Ashanti region branch of association of constituency chairmen, shared the above views recently on his social media platform, Facebook.
Chairman Odeneho Appiah observed that many people, especially the younger generation get confused when the history of NPP is told.
“Some have questioned that, is our party Danquah- Busia-Dombo tradition? Or there may be others. The youth of today get confused about NPP history because some of our elders keep changing the history when they talk or write about NPP”, he decried.
COKA bemoaned the fact that the Party does not have official document or book that talks about the founding fathers and its rich history.
“Some authors have written about NPP but people still have their reservations about some books.
“let’s have one official book or document which will be signed by the national chairman and the General Secretary. If we fail to do this, we will wake up one day and another name will be added to our history and our tradition”.
COKA was of the view that even though some elders who could better tell the history of the NPP tradition have joined their maker, many more elders are still around to give proper and detailed history of NPP.
“Our great elders keep joining our ancestors. Thankfully, we still have the J. A. Kufuors, Akufo-Addos and many other elders around to better put a proper perspective to our tradition. Let’s work on our history before we fight ourselves someday”, he pleaded.
