The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has called for cool heads to prevail in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Walewale Constituency in the North East Region.
The discord within the rank and file in the opposition party seems to be growing in many parts of the country lately.
Addressing the 6th anniversary of the NDC Walewale Youth Network over the weekend, the Tamale South Member of Parliament called for peace between the 2020 NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Abdallah Abubakari popularly known as Abuba and some bigwigs of the party in the constituency.
“Hon Alidu the constituency says that they want to see you and Abuba working together both in Walewale and in Janga – they want to see you working together for the good of the NDC and for the blessing of the NDC. If for nothing, today, I must achieve this unity which assures us of an NDC victory in Walewale” he said.
Mr. Iddrisu added, “The faith and future of the NDC in the Walewale constituency back by you rest solely in this two hands working together and I trust that my senior brother I have known and worked with will do what is Godly to support Hon Abuba or whoever together with the Regional Chairman to contain Walewale.”
The Tamale South lawmaker humbly admitted the NDC is always unsuccessful in their quest to win the Walewale seat anytime results from the Janga zone are collated in the general elections.
Consequent to this, the Minority Leader declared the Walewale constituency as an extension of the Tamale South Constituency and gave an assurance to support the party to wrestle for the seat from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024.
Meanwhile, the Walewale constituency was once a fertile ground for the opposition party until the introduction of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who happens to come from the area into the Ghanaian political arena.
But the seat has since 2012 eluded the NDC after Vice President Dr Bawumia as then running mate of the NPP became a strong force in the local politics.
