The Coalition of 2019 posted nurses has served notice of hunger strike on September 30, 2022 as well as embark on industrial action from October 1 until further notice.
This move, according to the group, has become necessary after all efforts to get their eight-month unpaid allowance proved futile.
Statement issued by a representative of the group, Jonathan Tetteh said they have been compelled to take impending action to address their plight.
Below is the full statement:
INTENT OF HUNGER STRIKE AND LAYING DOWN TOOLS
On behalf of the aforementioned group, I write to your outfit to share in the day to day plights of newly posted 2019 nurses and the line of action in the days ahead.
After exhausting all possible ways of getting our salaries paid after working for 8 months (degree nurses) and 7 months (diploma nurses), we wish to make known of our next line of actions;
1. 30th September – All 2019 posted nurses to embark on a hunger strike
2. 1st October – All 2019 posted nurses to lay down their tools till further notice
As professional nurses, we have nursed our clients for all these months on empty stomachs because of the love we have for the job and our clients but we are currently at our wits end. Enough is enough!
Government should as a matter of urgency expedite payment for all 2019 posted nurses so we can continue serving our mother Ghana.
Thank you
Sincerely,
Signed
Jonathan Tetteh
